How Your Word Can Help or Hurt Your Job Search
How Your Word Can Help or Hurt Your Job SearchHow Your Word Can Help or Hurt Your Job SearchBe impeccable with your word, is the first agreement in The Four Agreements, a bestselling book by Don Miguel Ruiz. Through the word you express your creative power, he writes. It is through the word that you express manifest everything.Your Word is How You Talk about YourselfWhen you search for a job, you are highly dependent on your word. What you say about your past experiences and what you say about what you desire for the future both have a huge impact on your success in getting the job you truly want. You use words in your resume, titelbild letter and throughout the interview process. There are many resources available to help you with using words that put you in the best possible light in these areas. Check out these articles.ResumeObjective statementCover letterInterviewingYour Word is How You Talk to YourselfBeing impeccable with your word, according to Ruiz, is mora than just about t elling the truth. Impeccability means without sin. Ruiz defines sin not as breaking some religious code of conduct but as anything you do that goes against yourself.Everything you feel or believe or say that goes against yourself is a sin. You go against yourself when you judge or blame yourself for anything. Being without sin is exactly the opposite. Being impeccable is not going against yourself. When you are impeccable, you take responsibility for your actions, but you dont judge or blame yourself. The very act of reading job descriptions and comparing your experience to listed requirements can put you in a state of negative self-talk. In Ruizs terms, the messages that appear in your mind that say you dont have enough experience, that youll never get a job, that theres nothing out there and so on are all examples of using your word against yourself. These thoughts judge you for you not having a job or having enough experience and blame you for not looking hard enough.Being impecca ble with your word means to use your energy in the direction of truth and love for yourself, says Ruiz. These messages of judgment and blame come not from ourselves, Ruiz argues, but from others opinions that we have turned into beliefs. Perhaps a family member is worried about you and expresses their concern by telling you to look harder. Or perhaps you had a boss that accused you of doing a bad job when you were actually working very hard.By seeing these opinions just for what they are opinions they lessen their hold on you and give you the energy to create a more positive outcome. If you are doing everything right in terms of using words on your resume and in your interview process but still have not found a job, your problem may be with how you use the word against yourself.Impeccability of the word can lead you to personal freedom, to huge success and abundance, writes Ruiz. The more you practice a positive internal conversation, ignoring the naysayers and voices of fear, the more successful you will be in your search and at your new job.

5 ways to ace the first impression with your new boss
5 ways to ace the first impression with your new babo5 ways to ace the first impression with your new anfhrerNo matter how much youlove your job, the working world can be stressful. And of all the regular stressors - heavy workloads, scary meetings, competition - none is so unique as getting a newboss. Your supervisor affects your everyday projects, work friendships, and even opportunities, which is why having a great relationship with them is well worth it. Brie Reynolds, senior career specialist atFlexJobs, has some advice for making a first impression worthy of yourBossstatus.1. Make adjustmentsGetting a new supervisor can be nerve-racking but also a great time to make some adjustments to how youre working, Reynolds says. There are few times in the professional world that allow you to truly step back and evaluate the way that you work, and getting a new boss is one of them. If you critically think about your work style before getting a new supervisor, youll be that much more adap table to theirs.2. Establish solid communicationAsk them how they prefer to communicate and how often theyd like hear from you, Reynolds says. Whether you work in an office or remotely, these communication norms will help you establish a strong working relationship from the get-go. Todays workspaces often allow for varied forms of communication from text to email to in-person conversations, learning about her preferences could save you headaches down the road.3. Do some homework firstIf youre feeling especially nervous about meeting your new boss, consider gathering some background information about them. A simple LinkedIn search could do the trick After finding out some career and personal information, youll be prepared to capitalize on your similarities.4. Get a sense of their personalityYour personality informs the way you work, and your boss is no different. If theyre more introverted, for example, they might prefer very succinct meetings that get to the point. If shes an early bird, she might appreciate having a report on her desk first thing in the morning.5. Gain respectWhile personality fit is an important component of the boss/employee relationship, its worth focusing on gaining your boss respect. A great way to do this is by setting expectations from the get-go if your supervisor knows what you do and how much to expect from you, theyll be that much more likely to appreciate your hard work. This article was originally published on Brit + Co.

The Pros and Cons of Piloting Tailwheel Aircraft
The Pros and Cons of Piloting Tailwheel AircraftThe Pros and Cons of Piloting Tailwheel AircraftWhen talking about airplanes, a tailwheel aircraft, or a taildragger, refers to the position of the landing gear on an airplane. An aircraft with a tailwheel, also known as conventional gear, is an aircraft designed with its two main landing gear placed forward of the center of gravity of the airplane, or in the front of the aircraft, with a single tailwheel in the rear of the airplane to support the tail of the plane. The term conventionalcan be confusing, though, as the more commonly seen gear on light aircraft these days is tricycle gear and not tailwheel style. Nevertheless, the term conventional (which came from the fact that most airplanes long ago were designed with a tailwheel gear configuration) implies that the airplane has a tailwheel, as opposed to tricycle gear. Aircraft with tricycle landing gear, where the two main landing gear are fixed behind the center of gravity, and the nose gear supports the nose of the aircraft in front, is more commonly seen in light aircraft today. Disadvantages of Tailwheel Aircraft Tailwheel aircraft are often thought of as more challenging, perhaps even more hazardous, to fly than an airplane that has tricycle landing gear. Because the position of the center of gravity is located to therear of the main gear, ground operations (mostly landing) can be more difficult in a tailwheel aircraft. The tailwheel aircraft also sits with its nose higher than tricycle gear airplane, lowering forward visibility for the pilot during ground operations. Its more difficult to taxi without being able to see directly in front of you, which is why youll often see pilots of tailwheel aircraft do S-turns while taxiing. And steeringa tailwheel aircraft is different than steering a nosewheel aircraft since steering is accomplished from behind the pilot instead of in front. Advantages of Tailwheel Aircraft There are certainly benefits to a t aildragger, as well. The nose-high attitude on the ground means that the propellers on tailwheel aircraft often have more clearance from the ground, making them better suited for grass or dirt runways. And theyre often designed and configured for slow flight, making them easier to land on short runways. Many are high-design and better suited for backcountry flying than nosewheel aircraft are. Tailwheel airplanes are without a doubt the favorite airplane among bush pilots.

Avoiding a #8220;One Size Fits All#8217; Resume
Avoiding a 8220One Size Fits All8217 Resume Avoiding a One Size Fits All Resume Various resume templates exist and most people use them as a starting point. Your resumes setup or layout may be similar to the next applicants, but its the content that separates you two. Your work history will vary from anotlageher persons, just as his or her education level may differ from yours. The details in a resume are what ultimately distinguish one candidate from another. Is the same true for positions? I know many people who use their same deckblatt letter when applying to multiple (and different) jobs they just simply change the job title. Should you use a one size fits all resume as a job seeker? My answer is no. A general resume should not be sent to a specific job listing.A one size fits all resume means the resume will have to be very general, and often times, vague. If youre applying for a marketing position, your resume cannot include all your work experience as a cashier. Employers are looking to fill a specific role if the vacancy was one size fits all, employers would note that. Most positions you apply for will vary in requirements, duties and skills and will be with different companies. Your resume should reflect the wants and needs of the position youre applying for.Below are a few important resume areas to make sure you tailor when applying for jobs.ObjectiveYour objective, purpose, mission statement or goal is extremely important because it shows employers why you are contacting them. For example, if your resume reads seeking a customer tafelgeschirr position that will enable me to utilize my skills to become an asset to my employer, although this sounds nice, it truly doesnt tell the employer much. What type of customer service position are you looking for? Customer service is a large field from call centers to food and beverage. What skills do you have that you plan to utilize? When tailoring this part of your resume, look at the job description youre app lying to and include any key words.ExperienceThis is probably the most important section an employer will look at because it demonstrates that you have the background to do the job. If youre applying for an IT position, list your previous jobs in that field. Seeing that you once were a counselor or adviser is nice, but it doesnt help an employer know you have the experience for an IT job. Do not include unnecessary or irrelevant experience based on the position youre applying to. If theres no direct relation, whether it be skills, duties or job functions, avoid it.Volunteer ExperienceVolunteering is phenomenal, but evaluate its importance based on job type. If youre applying for a nonprofit or some other type of service-related position, you will want to include your volunteer experience. Yet, if youre applying for an editorial job, past volunteer history shouldnt take up more space on your resume than work history. You must determine when this section is helpful and when it should be replaced with another point.SkillsLike all the other sections, relate your skills to the job youre applying to. If the open position requires HTML, CSS and content management system skills, and you have them, list them. Do not keep your communication, writing and proofreading skills you may already have on your resume instead. All the skills on your resume may not relate to every job you apply for. Look for openings where you can replace common skills listed with more relevant ones.ReferencesIf you list these on your resume, think about including references based on job type (if applicable). If youre applying for an HR position, one of your previous supervisors from a local bakery you worked in may not be as helpful to you or be able to attest to your HR skills. Provide references who can endorse you as a candidate in that particular job role.Master the art of closing deals and making placements. Take our Recruiter Certification Program today. Perfect Times to Break the Rules at Work
Perfect Times to Break the Rules at WorkPerfect Times to Break the Rules at WorkIf we all followed the rules all of the time, then nothing would ever change. Yet, rules at work and the way we work change all the time. Obviously, we do not go around breaking rules all the time or there would be chaos in the workplace. So, how does it happen and when are the perfect times to break the rules at work?1. When you are not operating under strict guidelinesIf you have a boss that is big on end results and deadlines more than how you do it, this is a perfect time to experiment with breaking some rules. Leaders will often give staff the opportunity to show their initiative, creativity, and ambition by letting them work on projects without strict guidelines. They want to see how you arrive at the end result and what you decided to do on your own. There will always be the important rules you can never break. But you are usually aware of those rules long before being given the gelegenheit to opera te under loose guidelines.2. When you are given permission to run with a projectIf your boss tells you something along the lines of, Why dont you just show me what you can come up with, use this as the chance to break rules, take ownership of your work, and build up your importance to the company. Break rules when you see more potential for career growth, both for you and for the company. Use it as a chance to make yourself irreplaceable at a company.3. When you clearly know there is a better opportunityIf you see your team is about to miss out on a great opportunity, this is a perfect time to break the rules. Yes, there is risk involved but you are convinced beyond all doubt that a better opportunity will be lost because people are stuck in their ways. This can also be your chance to prove it is ok to break the rules once in awhile and you know when to do it. You can show breaking the rules a bit is beneficial for everyone.Important This scenario applies to smaller things at work. F or example, switching a deadline or skipping a meeting to work on something you know is more important. If you have the authority to make serious changes to your staff and company without permission, it would be a good idea to get all the information required to make an educated decision first.4. When old rules are outdated and obsoleteIn fast-moving companies, a policy that exists today may be changed a month later. The company you are in shifts focus constantly and you have a new set of company guidelines every day.For you, it means the company guidelines that were important a month ago may no longer apply. And when they become obsolete, this opens up doors for you to explore how the old rules will be broken.Of course, you should never do anything too crazy. Find out why your company is changing and what the new rules will be. Make sure you are not just repeating yourself.5. When you get permissionIt sounds funny, but people do it. They ask for permission to break the rules It sou nds something like thisWould you mind if I gave this the old college try and show you how it turns out later? Before doing this, you have to make the case that they will benefit from some rule breaking. Companies are not big on letting employees run wild whenever they ask. It has to be a calculated move. Show the evidence that the time is right for some rules to be broken.By getting the supervisors permission, you now have someone who backed you up and will be held responsible if your new rules fail. In your career, taking risks is necessary for growth. Just remember that your manager will be seen as a failure as will you because you had his or her permission.6. When extenuating circumstances call for itRules are broken all the time whenever there is a collapse of a structured way of doing things. For example, an office building loses power and netz during a hurricane and one person in the office discovers a faster, cheaper, easier way to provide Internet for the office.

Creating a Conference Planning Checklist
Creating a Conference Planning Checklist Conferences are excellent opportunities to educate and inspire, encourage industry players to network, or synchronize team members efforts for a common goal. When organizing a conference, it is important to consider not only the obvious elements such as speakers and seminar topics, but also many behind-the-scenes details that make the event go smoothly.A conference plan is essential to its success. Lets examine several elements to include, making sure no smaller or secondary details are overlooked until the last minute. The Basic ElementsHere are the core elements to conference planning. It is crucial to make firm decisions about each point before any other steps can be taken.Conference committee. If the event will involve a large number of attendees and speakers, it is a good idea to delegate responsibilities for different areas to several motivated people . This way, no one person will be overloaded with work, and more resources will be available while organizing.Agenda. Carefully plan sessions around the conferences theme and objective. Prepare for problems such as missing or late speakers by organizing a few concurrent activities and keeping your organization flexible. Ask speakers for outlines of their presentations, which may be printed well in advance.Venue. Whenever possible, hold the event in the office space already available to the organization. Evaluate the following three considerations when deciding whether an outside venue is necessaryBudget. Is there funding available for the events location? Costs can easily run over in other areas such as accommodation of speakers and last-minute equipment needs, so consider minimizing the location cost by avoiding certain dates or reserving space for a half-day when possible.Length. What will be the conferences duration? As a rule of thumb, shorter conferences pack more punch, so hol d important sessions while the crowd has the most energy. Build in time for refreshments and movement to and from rooms between sessions.Attendance. Be sure to allow sufficient time for attendees to plan for the event. If a fee is involved, arrange for an easy online registration and payment system where possible.Commonly Overlooked ElementsWhile these considerations may not necessarily be forgotten, they tend to be addressed later in the conference planning process than they should be, and cause unnecessary disruption.Contact person. Choose an organizer or committee member to be the go-to person for questions and other issues.Catering services. Avoid leaving refreshment arrangements for the last minute. A simple-sounding item like coffee is surprisingly difficult to serve in large quantities, so investing in service in this area will be worth the expense.Lodging. If the event is to be held at a hotel, plan well in advance to work out accommodations. Blocks of affordable rooms will be available to those who apply early. This checklist will go a long way to planning a conference that will run itself, allowing even the organizers to participate in the proceedings. A little effort early on during conference planning will spare a lot of hassle and anxiety closer to the event.

How to Resign From Your Job (to take up a new post)
How to Resign From Your Job (to take up a new deutsche bundespost) How to Resign From Your Job (to take up a new post) When the initial victorious fist clenching, celebratory hugs and the general excitement of landing the dream job has passed, the candidate/recruiter must now navigate the potentially rocky post offer road to arrive safely in the new job on the first day. This can be a nervous time for the agency recruiter who has just placed a candidate as they worry that the candidate may get cold feet, or be tempted by a counter-offer causing the placement to fall through. It can also be a tense time for the candidate who may be feeling apprehensive about the thought of approaching their anfhrer to resign, having to work out the notice period which can sometimes be awkward, and/or entering a brave new world of employment elsewhere. So, I thought it would be useful to prepare a resignation guide for candidates, which can help candidates to more effectively handle the resignation pro cess prior to taking up a new post elsewhere. This guide is also designed to be used by recruiters who can relay its contents to candidates they have placed to give them advice on how to handle their resignation.Written offer in placeThe golden rule for resigning to take up post in a new job is not to resign until you have a written job offer in your hand, which includes a start date and details the salary and all the pertinent benefits and perks. If possible, dont resign until you have a company signed employment contract. A verbal offer is not enough you want to be totally sure of commitment from the employer and that all the correct internal hiring approval procedures have been executed.TimingWhere possible, try and consider factors such as bonus payment, holidays owed, vesting share options as your entitlement to these benefits can be affected by the day on which you resign. For example, resigning a week later could mean that you have accrued enough service to be eligible for a bonus payment whereas a week earlier could mean you lose your entitlement. Check all the terms and conditions that relate to your benefits vary carefully.Breaking the newsYour current contract may stipulate the resignation process and that may be that you should provide the employer with the appropriate notice of resignation and do so in writing. In practice, it is courteous to arrange a meeting with your manager and verbally resign and then hand them a resignation letter then and there, or follow up afterwards.Honor your notice period, but try to negotiate a shorter one if you wishIt is vital that you honor your notice period and try not to be tempted to break it by your new employer. Most good employers will accept that if they want good employees they will have to wait to the end of a notice period. However, there is nothing wrong with asking your manager if you can finish early, before the end of your notice period. Managers are often open to such a request, especially in sales , as the company may be less willing to disclose confidential information or company strategies with you as you may take them to your competitor.Be prepared for a counter-offerIf your current employer does not want you to leave then you may find that theyll offer you a higher salary to get you to stay. If this happens you may want to tell your new employer who may match the offer, exceed it or refuse to budge.Whatever happens you will have some thinking to do and a decision to make. For example, if your original reason for leaving was money orientated, and with your present company having addressed your money concerns you might then consider accepting the counter-offer.But, if your reason for leaving was not money orientated, then accepting a money based counter-offer may be unwise as once the initial excitement of the higher salary wears off you will be faced with the same problems which caused you to want to leave in the first place. Also, consider that if you resign and then retur n on a counter-offer the way that you are perceived by your boss and team members could change and you could be perceived as disloyal. Your manager could feel some animosity as he/she could feel that they had no option to make you a counter-offer which could effect the way they treat you.You should be aware that it is especially bad form to accept a counter-offer after you have formally accepted a post with a new employer. If you have signed a contract, then you will be in breach of contract with the new employer, but they probably wont pursue it. But, you will get a bad reputation with your agency and may burn your bridges with the employer who you may want to work with in the future. If you do receive a counter-offer, I urge you to consider these points, and jot down the pros and cons of leaving/staying and then discuss with someone whose opinion you value. If you do accept a counter offer make sure that it is in writing before you turn down your current offer of employment with the new employer.Build BridgesFinally, your current employer should be a source of referees and business connections for the future. So, approach your most trusted colleagues and managers and ask if they will act as a referee. Reach out and make LinkedIn connections with colleagues before you leave while you are totenstill familiar with them.
